Bird fancier's lung

Bird fancier's lung (BFL) refers to a type of hypersensitivity pneumonitis occurring as a response to avian antigens (usually inhaled proteins in the dust of bird feathers and droppings). It can have acute, sub acute and chronic clinical presentations.

Features can differ depending on whether is acute, sub or chronic but in general can be similar to other forms hypersensitivity pneumonitis.

Treatment and prognosis

Cessation of avian exposure forms a key part of management. Most cases have a good prognosis following cessation.
